Apply for a new trademark

You can apply for trade mark protection in Jersey through myIPO, our online intellectual property filing service.

Before you begin, make sure you have:

• the applicant's details
• a clear representation of the trade mark
• a list of the goods and/or services you want to protect

Check all information carefully before submitting your application.

Domestic trade mark applications

Domestic trade mark applications must be submitted through myIPO.

myIPO allows you to:

• submit applications online
• manage intellectual property filings in one place
• provide all information needed to support your application

Apply through myIPO.

International trade mark applications

If you want protection outside Jersey, you may be able to apply through the Madrid System administered by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO).

Until 15 September 2026

International applications should be prepared using Madrid Assistant.

Madrid Assistant guides applicants through the MM2 application form and generates a PDF ready for submission to IPO Jersey.

Use Madrid Assistant.

To apply through Jersey as the Office of Origin, you must meet one of the following criteria:

• be a British national
• be domiciled in Jersey
• have a place of business in Jersey

You must also have an existing Jersey trade mark application or registration that will form the basis of the international application.

The international application must:

• match the trade mark in the Jersey application or registration
• cover the same or a narrower list of goods and services

Once completed, send the MM2 application to ipojersey@jerseyfsc.org

International filing fees are paid directly to WIPO and vary depending on the countries selected.

A £50 handling fee is payable to IPO Jersey for certifying and submitting the application.

After 15 September 2026

International trade mark application services will be available through myIPO.

This will allow applicants to:

• submit domestic and international applications through one system
• manage intellectual property filings online
• pay the IPO Jersey handling fee electronically

Before you apply

Before submitting an application, consider the following:

• we are required to notify earlier trade mark owners if your trade mark may be confused with theirs
• selecting too many goods or services increases the risk of opposition from third parties
• only select goods or services that you currently use, or genuinely intend to use
• if you later need protection for additional goods or services, you must file a new application
• if a registered trade mark is not used for five years, third parties may seek revocation for unused goods or services

Your address

The owner's name and address will be published in our online trade mark database.

If you do not want your home address published, use a business address or PO Box address where appropriate.

Fees

All application fees are non-refundable.
